Camera shy

Most people know my cooky little films or at least attempted to sit through one on YouTube. I just wanted to talk about my vast amount of equipment that it takes to make one. All I use is this dumb camera. I can't even really operate it very well. It's small and has a decent lens. That's all I ask.

Summer's Gone

Towards the end of the summer, Yun and I spent a weekend with my cousin and her husband. They have a great house and a pool. The best thing though is the Bar-B-Que. I've never seen anything like it. It's the size of an SUV. It has many do-dads and gizmos. I just sat and stared at it. I've never seen anything like it before. This little drawing cannot do it justice. My hot dogs never tasted so good.

The thing about drawing freehand is one's inability to make a perfect circle. I could use a drawing compass or an elipse guide and make a flawless one but I do not. Pen in shaky hand, I make wobbly little circles. They pass for circles but are not very good. They do have character though. Also I can never find the center of the thing either. I'm always slightly off. So my spokes don't seems to really come from the middle of the wheel. More character I guess. When the character word gets thrown around a lot, it's really code for lousy drawing. At least it looks like a bike.

Squirrel Reinforcements

I have a whole new batch of squirrels. Look for them to be stuck on poles, mailboxes, stop signs and dumpsters in a neighborhood near you. That's a lot of squirrels.

The Webb Master

I work at a place called The Barbarian Group. One of the founders is a guy named Rick Webb. He has a huge Tumblr blog. Every once in a while he will post one of my drawings or silly films on his Tumblr. As soon as he does, it gets thousands of likes and I get thousands of new Tumblr followers too. If he touches something, it explodes on the internet. Once he posted one of my little films. Then he got it onto "The Laughing Squid Blog" and it doubly exploded. People see his name attached to something and they just start reblogging it. Ordinary folks seem to be under his hypnotic internet spell. Well I'm glad I know him and he likes what I do. I owe him a few thousand Tumblr followers which I could never repay. I'm just a small fish in his big Firefox pond.

Anything To Declare

I fell asleep on my flight and the stewardess gave me 2, "items to declare" forms. So I gluesticked the extra one into my drawing book. Then I did a drawing on top of it on the way home. I should have filled in all the answers over the top of the drawing and tried to use it at JFK. Maybe not, I already look suspicious enough. I try to be invisible at airports.
There is an interview of me on a cool website called. The Tools Artists Use. The guy who runs it is Bill Turner. Check it out here.

Red Hook Yacht Club

A lot of New York Urban Sketchers have drawn this building. I figured I would try my hand at it. It's one of the most famous spots in all of Brooklyn. Of course I met the owner. He wants to use my drawing to make t-shirts with. No problem. They did insist I drink a lot of their cold Budweiser's while I was drawing. Again, no problem.

Temple Merchadise

Here is the next installment of drawings I will be doing for the Jogyesa Temple in Korea. This statue stands guard over the entrance to the temple. The front of it is always covered in offerings of flowers, rice and bottled waters. I thought this one would make a nice t=shirt for them to sell too. I could see Madonna wearing one of these suckers in concert. Hell I could picture myself wearing one at an Nsync or Justin Bieber concert. NOT.

A Bridge Not Too Far

I remembered seeing a street in Brooklyn where the Verrazano Bridge peeked up at the end of the block. Butch Belair and I were going to draw, so I mentioned this to him. He said let's find it. We drove around and around and this is the spot we came up with. It's not the one I remembered seeing but it was pretty damn good. I love the unusualness of the setting. It's as if God wanted to put a big mountain in Brooklyn, so he put this sculpture up to see what it would look like if he really put one there. I personally think a mountain would look great in Bay Ridge. For what it's worth I give my go ahead.

Prospect Park

My wife tried to give me a little culture by dragging me to see the philharmonic perform. Not sure it worked very well.

My Interest In Pinterest

I have finally joined Pinterest to see what all the fuss is about. You can click here to see my Pinterests. Those of you who are already on Pinterest can follow me. It is actually a pretty good place to store things like a filing cabinet. This way it is easy to find cool stuff you like on the internet. Didn't think I would like it but I do.
