Mont Saint-Michel

In my opinion this is the best drawing I've ever done. Some of you may have heard of this place, it's called Mont Saint-Michel in France. It's a monastery built on a tiny island that you can only reach by driving on a single causeway over the water. It took over a thousand years to build. The reason we ended up there is because it has been a dream of my dad to go there. His father was wounded badly in World War One. He was transferred to France to recover from his wounds. His stay lasted many months. When he was better, he visited Mont Saint-Michel. My dad always remembers seeing the photos his dad took from there as a soldier. We spent 2 nights on the island itself. There are only a few hotels along the narrow medieval streets. Every major dignitary has stayed there. The reason my drawing is the best one I ever did is because every window, bush, tree and chimney are perfectly drawn. If you took a photo and superimposed it over my drawing you would see I nailed it. It took me 6 hours to do. Worth every second.

Absolutely beautiful! I, too spent two nights there one time. I think it is one of the most amazing places I ever saw, and I lived in Rome for a year.

It looks very good and I can tell that you were meticulous. How big is it? It would be cool if you had a photo of it to show side by side.

I'm french and love this place. The best moment is definitely early in the morning before the tourist invasion starts.
Your drawing could have been one more drawing of the Mont St Michel. But it's far more than this; You've captured the poetry of this spot. It seems an easy drawing, but it is a sophisticated one. not suprised you spent so much time. By the way, just curious. what's the size of the drawing ? And which watercolour do you use?
The skyline is awesome!

The size is 14X10. I use a black uniball pen and Windsor Newton watercolors

I love the colors. You even gave it a "Disneyland" sky :)

I will be blogging about my skies in another post coming up soon. Very observant though.

Muito bom, entre a tonalidade e o traço, a expressão é bem conseguida com a sua capacidade criativa em torno do desenho à vista. Excelente!

«Very good, between the tone and plotting, the expression is well achieved with his creative ability to design around the view. Excellent!

This is seriously magical—I've been to Mont Saint-Michel, what seems like a billion years ago and this zaps me right back to my 17-year-old self. Wow. Thank you for sharing your work.
