A lot of people say my drawings remind them of the work of Robert Crumb. I myself had never heard of the guy until the documentary came out about him in 1994. Somehow I had developed into Crumb without ever being influenced by his work. The other day I did this drawing and it very much reminded me of his work. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. At least he's considered great. I don't know what I'm considered. Maybe way above average.

Nice drawing, Tommy; You know, some people have said the same about my stuff, especially my sketchbook work. I, honestly, don't know what to say to them except, "OK." I think that in one way or another there will always be bits and pieces of one's work that will reflect the influence of other artists, it's something that's unavoidable, I think. I believe people have a tendency to see things weather they're there or not. I also agree with you that you are indeed an excellent draftsman.
I kind of noticed that similarity but only when I saw your work and Crumb's in "An Illustrated Life". Which was the first time I really saw your work and that of Crumb's too. Personally I really like that drawing style. Ink, crosshatching, good use of blacks. I admit I am influenced greatly by your work and Crumb's. But I also like other artists work too, like Joe Sacco and Joseph Remnant. But they all have a similar feel in their work and is something that I admire and it no doubt influences my own drawings. And after just beginning to draw a little over a year ago, I can see the influences of yours and others in my work. I hope people wouldn't view it as strictly mimicking or copying a style. Like Salvador said "there will always be bits and pieces of one's work that will reflect the influence of other artists." Sorry for the rambling comment....anyway I do think your work is awesome and I appreciate you sharing it.
Id take your drawing style over crumb dude, dont want to give you a big head but i think its miles ahead but thats just me. keep up the great work :)
That's for all the smart information.
Really beautiful drawing!!! Crumb?? I think you´ve got your own style...
