Brave

I received a fantastic gift in the mail the other day. It was a portrait of myself done by an artist I've never met before. He says he is not an artist but I beg to differ. To me John has earned the right to call himself an artist. Too often people compare themselves to some great artists whose work they could never achieve and therefore say that they are not an artist. Well there are a lot of artists that are way better than me. So should I not have the right to call myself an artist. I don't think so. I say if you have the courage to draw or paint or make little collages or whatever, then you can and SHOULD call yourself an artist. I feel this is one of the hurdles people must overcome in beginning to start drawing or painting again after many years of procrastination. We think that maybe someone will laugh at us or say their art stinks. I can tell you all honestly that I LOVE John's portrait of me. I am going to take it to the frame store and have it framed with a beautiful thick 8 ply matte and it will hang with honor in my apartment alongside artwork by some of the most famous artists in the world. I'm a collector as you all know (bragger). So you tell me should John call himself an artist. Now if only he will say it to himself, he just may do more lovely paintings just like this one.

The great Patti Gregory sent me this groovy photo of my sticker. She was my cohort in this sticker enterprise. This is the best shot yet.

MJ

I had no real vested interest in Michael Jackson. His music was just sort of way in the background of my life. I don't think I ever bought any of his music. His decline was very sad. I will say I loved the documentary of him by Martin Bashir. That was fascinating. Although I watched it again after he died and it wasn't as funny as I remember. It made me feel sadder for him. Oh well. don't do drugs kiddies.

Tommy Kane Draws Maine

I made a little film of my weekend drawing in Maine. The weather was miserable but I manged to film a few moments of sun. I made the weekend look better in the movie than it actually was. I scored the music.

Pasta

I'm sort of digging all this rain. My air conditioner has only been on once this summer. In September Yun and I are going to the south of France. I should have plenty of new drawings.

Geninne

There is an artist online I admire a great deal. Her name is Geninne Zlatkis. She lives in Mexico. Birds are her specialty. She is a master. Her style is very whimsical and unique. If you have a minute check out her blog and store. There are amazing prints for sale. She is an inspiration to me.

Cabin Fever

My legs are all bitten from mosquitoes. I itch like a mad man. Maine is just a little too far from New York to make it a place to hang out for a long weekend. The Berkshires are about the right distance. I did like this cabin on the lake business though. I could see my self canoeing around like Davey Crockett. Maybe rubbing some sticks together to start a little fire. Yun likes the nicer things in life like hot water and toilets. This original will also be on sale in my store for $100 bucks.

Let It Rain

Even though it rained the entire time I was in Maine, it's not necessarily a bad thing. I just have to change the way I draw. There was no way I could just sit outside somewhere and sketch Maine. We are talking crazy thunderstorms. So what I did was find little objects on the ground that represent the place I'm hanging out at. Then I proceeded to make a little collage drawing and do a lot of writing on it too. A journal of sorts. I would never have done something like this without the rain. So thank you rain.

Maine Event

Yun and I spent the 4th of July in Maine. Our friends have a cabin up there. It was a very American thing to do. Too bad it rained most of the time. I did a couple of cool drawings. The original of this one is now on sale in my Shop. $100.00, first come, first served.
