Hella

Danny turned me on to the work of Ronald Searle. A great old time illustrator. There is one book by him in particular that Danny covets. It's called, "Paris sketchbook." I found a used one online so I bought it. It's a first edition, 1958. I noticed the person who originally bought it had signed their name very prominately on the front page. The name was strange so I googled it. Hella Freud Bernays. Turns out she is Sigmund Freud's niece. I think she translated books for a living. The internet is cool. Check out this cool little movie of me. Click here.

wow. what a treasure you have found. i love old and used books - specially if they are signed by the owner or have a dedication written inside.
that makes the book even more special. i always have the feeling, that a part of the owner still lives through the book.
lol. what a funny movie... you are a super hero! :)

They showed the movie in my office at a big meeting. I made it super funny because i'm a clown. It went over really big. We were discussing the great things you can do on the internet.

I love Ronald Searle - Mark Kennedy over at 7 Camels

has some great scans from Searle's Secret Sketchbook - you should check it out if you haven't seen them. They're amazing. Imagine trying to get away with drawing in secret in a strip club today...

I loved this drawing when I saw it on Flickr - I know that you've said that if were fans of your blog to avoid the Flickr site but I can't help myself. Anyway I still love it.

Ronald Searle is such an amazing artist - the BBC have recently made an excellent documentary on him. He had, as you may imagine, a very interesting life.
