Half Gainer

I have a bunch of Noguchi lamps in my apartment. One of them was quite large and expensive, I might add. You can see the thing here. So one day I'm watching Happy perched on top of a dresser in the bedroom. Suddenly just like Greg Louganis, she decides to take swan dive. I must say it was quite spectacular but instead of jumping into a pool, she chose this particular lamp. She shred the lamp to pieces. A total loss. Yun was upset but I didn't particularly care. It's just a lamp. We can replace it but our dumb cat is one of a kind.

Tommy...

I am laughing and it's 7:30 in the morning here! yep...an idiosyncratic cat to match your own quirkiness! You, the cat, and Yun seem like the perfect mates!

I absolutely love this! Happy's personality comes shining through. Love the whiskers, and the expression!

Thanks for my daily dose of laughter...

Did you freehand that elaborate typeface? I love that kind of lettering and I love the way it looks, but I find it really hard to draw.

I think when you have a cat or dog living in your house you have to accept that they have no concept of the value of "things", which is probably a good lesson for all of us.

I really enjoy your blog and the accompanying drawings. I'm one of those people who finally realized they could be an artist after 45 years of thinking I couldn't.

You should be very proud Fifi. It's never too late to allow art into your life. The typeface is made from rubber stamps I own.

Wait until you meet Ace, our other cat! Despite her birthday of February 14, she is no sweetie pie. She is a 17-pounder from Brooklyn. She's been through it all. If she'll sit still enough for tom to sketch her, ace is a piece of work, too.

I should tell you Yun that Ace puked in the middle of the night on her ottoman. (Yun was away)

Happy sounds like one heck of a cat. We once had a cat that i could fill a book with her antics, so I can relate. Thanks for making me laugh.

Do you use color pencils in your sketches? If so, what kind?

This is a particularly fetching page, Tommy, beginning with the contrast of Happy's name and the verging-on-evil expression she's wearing, and then as others have mentioned the lettering and color. Plus I admire it because for some damn reason, I've never drawn a respectable cat. Dogs, yeah. But cats . . .

I use prisma colored pencils. You can get them in any art store.

Teehee! I agree with Fif they have no value of things - or wallpaper! Great drawing (although they are always more than drawings) as always.

Love it! My cats are just like that, puking and all. But they are so much fun! ;)
ps: it's finally getting warmer!

Wonderful! If I were a cat I'd do the same. It looks like a fun thing to dive into.

I just love the art you've created here. The story had me gaffawing....cats do what they do...don't they?
